Re: "ground glass" diagnosisFrom: DRoss38040 (DRoss38040@aol.com)Wed Dec 24 02:04:14 1997

Sorry I'm so late responding...been busy. I have never heard the term "ground glass", but I assume it to mean an even, overall speckling of echoes throughout the cyst. This is the usual sonographic appearance of endometriosis, so I assume this is what you meant. There can be irregularities in these endometriomas, so the speckles may not be athroughout the whole cyst. However, endometriosis is a clinical diagnosis, only to be confirmed by ultrasound and surgical pathology, if necessary. In my experience, oc's are often the treatment of choice for endometriosis, so your doc's treatment was correct (as witnessed by the remission you noted). oc's are also treatment for other hormonal imbalances which cause cysts. IMHO, the docs were both right. Am I missing something in your post? Or is "ground glass" something other than what I think you mean? Diana Ross, RT, RDMS
