Re: doctors and usFrom: DRoss38040 (DRoss38040@aol.com)Mon Dec 22 20:47:15 1997
Hi, all! Regarding the current thread about doctors performing sonograms...I must say I agree that it is better that a qualified technologist perform the scan. As Terry says, there are some very good sonologists out there; but we are not talking about sonologists. A real sonologist is quite a rare phenomenon. We are mostly talking about those who don't do sonograms for a living, but do it as a sideline. Those who do fellowships in sonography, usually do a "body imaging" fellowship...CT, MRI and Ultrasound. And they usually only get the amount of scanning they push for. Fertility specialists are usually looking for follicle size and location when they perform sonograms. They have limited experience with pathology. Many of them send their baseline sonogram patients to a radiologist. After a while, these body imaging people get the hang of it, but how can most of them compare to highly skilled and experienced sonographers? I still think the collaborative method is the best.... I hope this is not seen as a flame, but just MHO. The All-Too-Real (her name is DIANE) DIANA ROSS RT,RDMS

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
