doctors and usFrom: ellison r marshall (emdee2@juno.com)Sun Dec 21 07:47:06 1997
Dr. Frank Thibault, I have worked with several doctors who perform their own ultrasound studies. Most of them are gyn docs and they do a good job. I have seen some bad sonography also done by doctors. But on the other hand there are ARDMS sonographers that have questionable skills. Just passing a test does not make a sonographer or a physician. There are some physicians I would not let touch anyone in my family. You, like many of us, received limited training in the 70's and were self taught because of the circumstances. Twenty years later I am teaching physics......a subject of which most sonographers gladly forget AFTER they pass the ARDMS exam. It is dedication and continued training that separates the skill levels of all practitioning sonographers; I might add that it is "practicing medicine" for physicians also. P.S. I know several sonographers here that missed ectopics or otherwise performed poor exams which I had to remedy. I have also followed up physician's exams that were less than optimal. We are all continuing to learn and improve; none of us has "arrived". Keep up the good work! Ellison Marshall, BSRT, RDMS Faculty, Austin Community College

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
