Did you know that there are several large, multi-center federally funded research trials taking place in the U.S. that may need experienced sonographers to participate in the acquisition of data? Recently, I unexpectedly contracted with a local clinical site to scan carotid and brachial arteries as part of a NIH funded athersclerosis study. As I subsequently learned, there are many sites around the US that are having difficulty in recruiting sonographers. The primary reason for this difficulty is that these studies are typically run from Public Health or epidemiologic centers, not Radiology/Vascular clinical sites. The investigators are PhDs and aren't networked into the sonography community and don't know where to look for help. Obviously, the Radiology/Echo/Vasc departments are none to eager to loan out their people. What I would like to do is put together a roster of interested sonographers/vascular techs who may be interested and are available to participate. Ideally, the person should be self-employed or have experience doing contract work. These opportunities are not typically full time benefitted positions. Because these sites in the past have had to train participants from scratch to perform the research ultrasound protocols, they are willing to compensate experienced sonographers handsomely. My idea is to provide an informal link between the investigators and qualified sonographers. This is not a business venture on my part, just an attempt at communicating between groups of professionals that haven't really dialogued much in the past. For example, there is currently a srtong need for a research sonographer in Charlotte NC. The position requires 1-2 days per week beginning mid-January and continuing for 3.5 years. Pay is boffo! If you're interested in this particular position or just want your name on my roster, please e-mail me with all your particulars, including years of experience, specialties, and the like. Should I hear of somthing in your area, I can forward that info to you. Please send e-mail directly to me at jimbaun@aol.com

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
