I find I am in the small righteous minority, but I continue to stand
for freedom over central control. We need to recognize that life is a
risky business and has a long run mortality of 100%. I cannot and will
not imagine the alternative of 100% safety. This would involve
cryo-preservation at birth, IMHO. This is America! But post-911 America
is becomming more CYA-conscious. Extreme sports are the response of our
youth to this preoccupation.
My two-year-old can swim after a fashion for a good while. The price
has been eternal vigilance from daddy, and two trips clothed into the
pool to retrieve her before she could doggy paddle.
