Re: History is made in West Africa! From: DuBose, Terry (DuboseTerryJ@uams.edu)Mon Jan 31 07:33:07 2005
Ann congratulations to you and your students in Ghana! For those not familiar with the story, Ann Polin went to Ghana in 2000-2001 to teach sonography. Her 14 year old daughter went with her, and they posted their journals with photos on OBGYN.net over the course of the trip. You can see these journals here. http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asp?page=/yw/articles/africa/project _africa http://www.obgyn.net/us/project_africa.htm http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asp?page=/us/polin_interview The announcement that Ann's students have passed the ARDMS exams is doubly significant, in that it is the first time a sonographic certifying examination has been administered internationally (outside the USA & Canada). This is an important even for the profession. Thanks to Ann and the ARDMS for this effort in international education. It bodes well for the future of sonography. Terry J. I am delighted to announce that three of my West African sonography students (from my sonography program in Ghana in 2000/2001) have successfully passed the ARDMS physics exam! They are the first on the continent of Africa to sit for and pass an ARDMS exam in Africa. As I told them in my email to them when I heard the news, "You must now be the teachers and role models for those sonographers to come. You will help to shape the future of sonography in Ghana, and maybe all of Africa. And, you and those who follow in your footsteps will be helping to provide a higher standard of medical care for hundreds, thousands, and maybe millions of people in Africa." I am so proud of them!

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
