Re: Fetal lung maturityFrom: Terry J. DuBose (duboseterryj@uams.edu)Thu May 8 08:23:55 2003
Dr. Fernando Salmon, In the earlier days of sonography, early '80's, there were some attempts to compare the echogenicity of lung and liver to evaluate lung maturity. However, it did not seem to work out for lung maturity evaluations. As to fetal intestine, I am only aware of comparing the echogenicity of bowel to bone. Increased bowel echogenicity, approximately equal to bone, has been correlated with some trisomies. However, it appears to only be valid at lower frequencies (2-3.5 MHz)... at higher frequencies the bowel often appears brighter. Hope this helps. Terry
