Re: Objectionable mailingsFrom: Dr. Fazeel (fazeel@abt.wol.net.pk)Thu Apr 24 16:23:34 2003
I propose that for a few weeks, all the mail first goes to Terry or some other responsible person and then all the objectionable stuff is deleted and then mails sent to the list. When those sneakers get tired, we can reintroduce open participation. Of course that would mean "manual screening and time consuming". fazeel -------Original Message------- From: ultrasound@obgyn.net Date: Thursday, April 24, 2003 2:09:12 PM To: Multiple recipients of list ULTRASOUND Subject: Re: Objectionable mailings The problem of SPAM is becoming much worse over the entire internet. The perpetrators have learned how to make their spam appear to come from legitimate addresses such as obgyn.net, yahoo.com, msn.com. This makes it difficult for Spam filters to work: although I could tell my filter to "kill all mail from obgyn.net, msn.com, yahoo.com, I would be throwing the baby out with the bath water. And the spamers can change the overall address with each mailing. For example, if I filter on 12345@yahoo.com my filter will stop all mail with that address. But the next mailing from the perp will be from 22345@yahoo.com, and my filter will let it through. I then create a new filter for 22345@yahoo.com, but the perps will continue to use a different address. The spam filter helps, but recently I have noted more and more spam gets through the filter. -- So I agree that the answer is not each person trying to filter the mail they receive. We have to have a more fundamental approach, which means government most likely. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
