Re: Two Yolk Sacs, one embryoFrom: Terry J. DuBose (duboseterryj@uams.edu)Tue Jan 21 16:20:12 2003
My first thought is that if you wait 3-4 days, the other twin will show up... I have seen cases where one twin was larger than the other by up to 6 days... and their heart rates correlated with their CRL sizes both in the acceleration and deceleration phases. Our hypothesis was that when the cell mass split, one twin got a larger mass of cells. Both were normal, but remained about a week different in size until delivery. Check out this article: http://www.obgyn.net/english/pubs/features/dubose/ehr-age.htm particularly this image: http://www.obgyn.net/english/pubs/features/dubose/Image16.gif I also described this set of twins in detail in FETAL SONOGRAPHY, p. 151-154. Or you may need to watch for conjoined twins later. Either way, please follow this one, give us feed back... and get accurate measurement on the CRL and EHR over the next month. Interesting case. Good luck. Terry J DuBose.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
