Vessel CordFrom: hpkv (hpkalagara@yahoo.com)Tue Dec 17 13:07:09 2002
hello, i'm in my 22nd week of pregnancy and in my ultra sound done today they had detected a 2 vessel cord.it's a single pregnancy and looked like a male baby.i am really concerned and extremely worried .my medical knowledge is limited and would really appreciate it if you could throw some light on the following aspects: i do understand that less than 1% of single babies have this problem and it's quite uncommon.and a 2 vessel cord could mean the baby's future growth could be hindered and it could lead to a still birth or premature birth.what i don't understand is: 1)what kind of complications may arise due to the 2 vessel cord :a)during the rest of the pregnacy b)after the delivery, anytime during the life span of the baby. 2)what kind of defects may the baby have due to the 2 vessel cord??are these defects a)already present, b)may occur during the rest of the pregnacy or c)may come up after the baby is born anytime during the life span of the baby?? 3)if the defects are already present, are they detectable thru ultrasound or amniocentesis?? 4)if they are not already present and all goes well and i do deliver a healthy baby, are there any chances of defects developing during the life span of the baby.....if so is there anyway of preventing them ?? if it's not asking for too much i would be really grateful if you could send me a detailed e.mail with the answers to my queries. thanking you, yours sincerely, haripriya vasireddy

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
