Skin Sensitivity to Ultrasound Gel

This is a bit off topic, however related to the skin imaging thread. We have a female student in our program who is allergic to the scanning gel and I have never had a student with this problem, so I am baffled. It is the gel (well known commercially available product) at the college. She also breaks out at her clinical site, and I do not know their gel brand. In the meantime,we are using KY Lubricant as her coupling medium.

I immediately wrote to the company and explained what happened to the student while she was in our lab. The risk manager wrote back and told me they would send us the Material Data Safety Sheet. I had already pulled that information from their web site, and did not learn anything. They promised to get back to me with information on allergy patch testing, which tells me they have encountered this issue before. In the meantime, I am wondering if anyone has thoughts on this. I will e mail privately the company name and type of gel, if you think you can help clarify this mystery for me.
