Re: fluid intake while pregnantFrom: Deborah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 16 Sep 1998 08:32:06 -0500 (CDT)
A few suggestions about morning sickness: -Make sure you are eating small amounts of food frequently. -Don't drink liquids with your solids. Wait for about an hour after you eat anything solid. -No fatty or greasy foods. -Before bed, try eating a protein snack, like a small peanut butter sandwich, or a carton of yogurt. -Sip ginger ale. -Some herbal teas help: peppermint, spearmint, dandelion, or ginger. -Bananas help some women. -B6 supplement may help: 25mg three times a day. -Over the counter medicines: Emetrol 1 - 2 teaspoons in the morning before you get up and then throughout the day as you need it. Unisom 12.5 to 25mg three times per day (make sure you talk with your midwife or physician about this one). -Juice of lemon mixed with a teaspoon of salt. -Eating tangy foods with salty foods. -Continue to suck on ice chips, or eat shaved ice. The above things may help so that you can consume more liquids. If you continue to have signs of dehydration contact your midwife or physician. There are prescription medicines that may be needed to ensure that you are able to take in an adequate fluid intake. Hope this helps. I have great empathy since I had severe nausea (no vomiting however) with all three of my pregnancies.
