I definitely didn't have a very high level of self-esteem in my teens and twenties (At least partically because of being fat and hairy), but I still had an incredible sex drive, so I don't think, at least for me, the two were related. In fact, the more I had sex, the worse I felt, but the worse I felt, the more I needed sex to feel better. It was almost like an addiction. I had sex with people I didn't know very well, just because I wanted them to like me. I would "put out" for my boyfriend, his friends, and anyone else who came along. It was never really all that satisfying, or at least the satisfaction would only last as long as the sex. Maybe your sexuality is more tied to your feeling attractive, while mine is more tied to wanting to be liked.
