Re: ? about PCOSFrom: bluebonnet (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 25 May 2001 03:02:35 -0500 (CDT)
the darkened skin on your neck and armpits can be from being insulin resistant, which goes along with pcos, and for a lot of people seems to be the cause of pcos. why it causes this reaction, i dunno. it is definately possible to have normal ovaries and uterus and have pcos. polycystic ovaries are symptom, not the cause of the disease. it is a syndrome, so not everyone has all the same symptoms to the same degree of course. and i agree with mandy that you could have the hormone workup to really check things out. the hairs on your chin and chest-shaving doesnt cause them to get worse, but it can definately seem like that over time because as you said your darkened areas have gotten worse- the hair may have as well. hope this helps!
