Re: post: Questions- 5 hour IGTTFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Apr 2000 12:48:14 -0500 (CDT)
A five hour test is rarely used any more. Most drs feel that it puts too much stress on the patient. I have seen were some of the women here still have to endure it. It used to be the standard. They will let you sit in the waiting room between "sticks". When it is time for you to get your blood drawn, you just follow their directions and return (ex. some places call you each hour, others just want you to come to the window). You will be allowed to drink water during this time. You should not have anything else. Bring a snack with you to have when you are finished, you may be dizzy. I would have someone else drive me because I am a *hard* stick and they usually have to try several times with me. I would try to skip the Prilosec if I could. I would not take any Excedrin unless I really had to. The caffine will speed up your system and may make you even more dizzy.
