a few questionsFrom: anne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Apr 2000 14:20:02 -0500 (CDT)
i'm new to this board and diagnosis, kind of. I had surgery in 1990 at age of 20. Told I had some cysts, needed to stay on the bcp to 'keep from getting more cysts.' nothing said about infertility, obesity, diabetes, or etc . . . I was with that dr. for 10 years and recently changed to a new dr. who said yes, this is what you have, and after looking in my old records this was my diagnosis then as well. So . . . loads of questions I can't find answers to, even after searching the archives. Can someone who knows some of this email me personally? First of all, I do have some excessive hair on arms, abdomen, and upper lip, along with some chin hairs. Will this get worse over time or does the bcp keep them away? Is there anything that keeps this from getting worse? Or anything that seems to increase the likelihood of it happening? Also, I've always been very active, on a very high carb low fat diet beause I run and work out. I am not overweight but am wondering if this will change down the road. could those high carbs be harmful for me re: diabetes? i don't know alot about this at all, as you can tell. I don't know if there is a correlation between high carbs and insulin, but i know carbs are sugar . . . as you see, i have a lot of reading still left to do. I'm on the pill because i've developed cysts the times i've gone off. So what happens in several years after i HOPEFULLY have children and want to go off the Pill? I can't imagine a hysterectomy works with this condition since it is hormonal. What does work? all I read are short term cures to each little problem within this disease. Is there a pill that balances the hormones and stops the symptoms? What is this about insulin? Should I be concerned? Should I have tests done? These are a lot of questions, I know, but whatever you can reply to help would be grateful. I am going to see my new doctor and she seems great but I really want to talk to people who are going through this. After ten long years of not having a clue it's time to start understanding it. Thanks
