well, I am not a medical professional, just a woman who has PCOS.

PCOS is weird, like all "syndromes" are.. It is characterized by a group of symptoms, and people who have PCOS do not necessarily have ALL of the symptoms.. Also, there are blood tests that are used to aid a medical professional in determining whether or not a patient has PCOS, but again, the lines are blurred, and many times, a woman's test results will come back within the "normal" range, yet the woman clearly has PCOS, as evidenced by symptoms...

So, there really isn't a clear answer, as far as I can tell... What I think, personally, is that if you have these symptoms, you may be a candidate for this diagnosis, and it is definitely worth pursuing with your doctor, and if that doctor does not take you seriously, or perform the tests, go to another, and another, and another, etc. until you find one who will look at you, your symptoms, your test results and your history all together and will give you an informed and educated diagnosis.

Sounds to me like something in your endocrine system is "out of whack" so why not push the envelope with your doctors and see what you can find out?

p.s. my doctors gave ME thyroid tests for years, all were always normal... it wasn't until I started pushing for answers that I learned about my condition and all that goes along with it. Too many doctors out there are not up to date on this, and many more are just not interested in it, for whatever reason....

I am so glad that I found this site. I didnt even know this sort of thing existed. I am 31 years old and have been to a dermatologist several times for my acne...things seem to work, kind of. I do, as I stated above, have mild adult acne (cystic acne generally) and I do have a gross abundance of hair on my chin and breasts. I can not pluck them as there are way to many. NO DOCTORS have ever told me that the two could be associated. I ahve had a thryoid test which came back just fine. Is there a test for this? Should my OBGYN be consulted or my dermatologist? I have very stong periods with a lot of clotting and drastic mood swings. Are these also symptoms? Any advise or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
