Kirsten, I'm sure looking back that I've had this problem for over 20 years before I got a diagnosis (PCOS with level 2 diabetes). I finally wrote down everything that was bothering me even if it didn't seem to relate to my "female problems" as my dad says. I've just been diagnosed for 5 weeks and am seeing marked improvements already. I take glucophage and am on an 1800 calorie low carb diet. It's taken some adjustments but it's been worth it. Quite alot of the pain is gone, my period resembled normal this last time, I'm no longer developing dark skin patches, I'm sleeping 8 hours a night, no more weird hair growth and I finally feel good for a change... Since both my sister and I have this disease, my mom is going in for tests tomorrow and I'll bet she does, too. She's 59. I don't think it is ever too late. Figure out between you and your doctor what is best for you and go for it!
