Nina,

This is great to find someone so close experiencing the same thing.

I was dx'd with PCOS in '96 by gyn, Dr. 'Lata' Labsetwhar. I have had hashimoto's thyroditis since I was 15 ('80)so irregular periods & weight issues were nothing new for me. But I started really putting on wieght in the late 80's and went from 130 - 215. I was doing aerobics and following the government approved 'pyramid' dietary plan. My PCP (dr. Marshall in Rossford) at the time just kept harping for me to eat less and exercise more. Dr. Lata dx'd me and suggested that if I wanted to have children to start. And I was lucky to become PG immediately. But that threw my hypothyroidism out of wack. So My PCP sent to an endo, Dr. Richard Beham. great guy!!! We have battled since I delivered my daughter in December of 96 to get my thyroid in line. As a last resort, I started glucophage since I have been dealing with fatigue, weight, and brain fog. Many PCOS symtoms are identical to hypothyroidism so it's hard to distinguish between the 2 plus I was only on BCP for the PCOS at that point. Since I started the glucophage, I have lost 25#, my hypoglycemia & hypothyroidism is under control, and I have tons more energy.

BTW both my gyn & endo have mentioned that many have both PCOS and thyroid disease. Not too many drs or others mention that anywhere.

So I have lots less to vent about than I did 6 months ago. Just the usual, DH, kids, in-laws & work.

Have a great day!!!!
