hello,

Today I was diagnosed with PCO which I had never heard of before so immediately went home and started searching on the net and found this site. I am trying to get my head around it and understand what is going on. My symptoms are as follows:

******* I was very slim until I hit 14. I had just changed drugs due to having a brain tumour. 16 I had brain surgery. I don't have regular periods

--
and in fact went without one for nearly 3 years. When I do get them
they can be just spotting... or even a huge deluge for an entire month.
no gyno probs. Ever since my weight problem has just been escalating
for no reason. I DO NOT overeat. I CAN NOT eat fatty foods due to my
gastro tract being shot to pieces from all the throwing up from drugs at
16 etc. I was then diagnosed 2 years ago with IBS (Irritable Bowel
Syndrome). Following this I had my gallbladder removed last year. The
best way I can explain how I feel about my body is the following analogy
(which my endocrinologist supports):

Due to my IBS my body thinks I am starving myself so goes into 'famine mode'. What food does stay in my system my body thinks FOOD and stores every micron. Because of the above and my body being in famine mode it won't release what stores it has (because i'm apparently starving myself) so I have no energy. I feel lethargic which makes eating tiresome (funnily enough) as does exercising (although I do walk and exercise in front of tv).

My endocrinologist has told me it is the hardest thing to fix and no real cure is available. (joy) So I am pertubed because he has prescribed me a form of Prozac????? (maybe if he thinks i'm going to be fat, i can atleast be a happy fat.. haha) When questioning this he explained that the brain is in famine mode and does not understand that you are eating correctly.. yada yada so by taking this small dose it wakes up the brain???? I DON"T GET IT. Please don't think I must be psycho if he prescribed me this. I am not depressed (sure I get sad sometimes but don't we all). I am the 'joker' at work and besides this crap am generally happy and love life. He said out of the 25 people he has prescribed this too he has had 23 people lose weight????? If this didn't work he was going to start me on modifast.

I thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy posting, and would appreciate any information any of you can help me with.

Kind regards
