Re: oral board examsFrom: Jane Helwig, MD (jane@seasonedsystems.com)Sat Feb 27 11:32:45 1999
I found the Columbus Comprehensive Review course most helpful although it was expensive. We were told in Columbus to be sure to know the number of GBS cases prevented by universal screening vs risk-factor treatment, and sure enough I was asked that. The course was a great overall review of OB-GYN. The best buy for preparing for oral boards is a new book "The Oral OB/GYN Board Exam" by Anita Krishna Das, MD. It was about $18 and the information was exceptionally helpful. A bargain. If you've had little or no experience with oral exams, the Exampro seminar is very useful. Purportedly you learn to "psych" the examiners. I was satisfied just to pass and didn't aspire to "psyching" anyone, but the seminar gives you insight into helpful techniques for oral exams. Note that ABOG moved up the date that case lists are due to August 1. The book and some other sources say Aug. 15, so don't be caught unawares. Be *SURE* to get someone to review your case list before you send it in--you can save yourself major hassles down the line. Don't blow off the Office Practice cases until the end, because this third counts just the same as the other two. Good luck--the new ACOG Compendium and the Prologues are the best places to start and end your studies. Jane

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
