Stripping the membranes

In response to Dr. Paul-Andre's summation of the study on stripping the membranes to prevent postmaturity in which he states "In summary, if you do it you don't hurt. . . and if you don't do it you are not in the false." Excuuuuuse me, if I had healthy, young males coming into my office and started wrenching around on their lovely sensitive genitalia causing "significant discomfort" and "minor side effects" such as bleeding, I'm certain everyone on this list would call the cops and report me for assault. The British have a great term which I don't hear much in North America --it is "meddlesome midwifery" and it applies to everyone who gets itchy fingers in obstetrics--the Brits are known to slap away meddling hands.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
