Re: Intermittent auscultation --> Hired GunsFrom: Braun, R. Daniel (rbraun@iupui.edu)Mon Feb 22 04:09:09 1999
Well said. Dan R. Daniel Braun, MD FACOG Clinical Professor Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Indiana U. School of Medicine Indianapolis, IN -----Original Message----- From: Prof. Carlos Santos Jorge [SMTP:csjorge@mail2.esoterica.pt] Sent: Saturday, February 20, 1999 1:31 PM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: Re: Intermittent auscultation --> Hired Guns Dear Colleges, Fortunately I'm not in the "war" of U.S.of A. obstetrician's plaintiff/defense people.Certainly obstetricians are currently unfairly treated as a general rule, no argue on that. But it's also truth that some deserve it. Regardless of present Barry Schifrin' attitudes in that "war" it can not be ignored his outstanding contribution to EFM as we know it now. Back in U.S.C.'s Women s Hospital where I first met him in my american fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine he showed himself as one of the "great mind" in his time. Most of what his detractors are saying now in the end of the millennium as the correct and adequate interpretation of CTG's tracings was indeed posted by Barry 20 years ago. If we know now something (do we know something really?) about CTG is due in a great extend do Barry. I would like to know what most of his contradictors did in this field and what kind of contributions to fetal evaluation did they actually bring to our knowledge's improvement. It seems to me that very, very little! Are they also qualified as "great minds"? We are in our right to accept or not his "medico-legal" stand points but we can not ignore Barry's contributions to our own arguments to our own present positions. Fellow american obstetricians, let me say this: some things can only happen in your country. Some are excellent but also some are to be ashamed of. You have this unique capability: to be the best in many things but simultaneously the worst in many others (v.g. Barry's, Clintons's, etc, just to quote two recent ones) Respect even for our enemies is the very foundation of democracy, and you are a democratic country (although some of you are not). The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
