Re: Intermittent auscultationFrom: Richard B. Kates, MD (rkates@arias.net)Wed Feb 17 16:24:59 1999
Look at the meta-analysis in the Gray Journal...'97 or '98, I believe, by Vintzileos, A. EFM reduces risk of death, and though not particularly studied, the risk of injury. RCTs of EFM vs IA are severely flawed, and have been refuted many times over. I am aware of the MD's in Wisconsin who promulgate this, and believe their patient population to be skewed. Am also aware of the college position, but the members wo promulgate IA all use EFM. Richard B. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
