Re: children in delivery roomFrom: Pat Sonnenstuhl (webmidwife1@home.com)Thu Feb 11 08:13:25 1999
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I've had children at births. If the child is prepared for the birth and has their own care provider for the birth, for me it is no more traumatic than what can be seen on television. My nephew, at the age of 10, was at the birth of his sister. From that day they both have a closeness in communication and connection. She is now a teenager and Mat is in his 20's. I think having children at birth, who really want to be there, can be wonderful. In the same family mentioned above, the 13 year old boy wanted no part of being at the birth, and stayed home. I think the child will determine whether or not he/she is ready. If you expect the birth to be very traumatic, perhaps not a good idea. But for an expected normal birth, I don't see it as a problem.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
