Re: children in delivery room

The role of preparing the child (whatever age) for the experience cannot be stressed enough. When I was just considering it with my own 5 year old son, I talked him through a birth video. I had my answer on whether he should be there or not when he said, "Mommy, I don't EVER want to see that AGAIN!"

Even with an older, 10-12 yr old, child, there should be someone there just for him, who can talk to him about what is going on, and leave the room with him if he so desires.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
