Re: children in delivery roomFrom: Barborza@aol.comWed Feb 10 19:28:16 1999
I have done many deliveries with children present without problems. I always require an advocate for the child, someone who is not there to support the mother (like the father) and can be available to remove the child if he isn't doing well or if there is an emergency and you want him removed from the room. One of the most beautiful births with a sibling present was a 13 year old boy. He came to every prenatal visit with his mom, and was very interested in everything that was going on. She was very comfortable with him being there, and he was quite well prepared, having seen books and a video. When his mom started pushing, he stayed up by her head, and chose not to look. But when we started seeing head, he was right down there to watch his baby sister born. He cried. It was BEAUTIFUL. Go for it! Barb Orza, CNM Lawrenceville, GA

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
