children in delivery room

In our practice children are welcome at all births. We expect the parents to educate the child prenatally -books, videos etc. Then there is a support person for the child.

Youngest child 3yrs, really enjoyed it, esp when the membranes broke in second stage. Often have children touch the baby's head as delivering, cut the cord, or tell us the sex. Once at a fast multip birth, had the 8 yr old boy bring my instrument tray over as birth happened quickly out of the room. It was a good thing I had the patience to answer his questions when setting up!!

Usually, boys don't want to attend after 12yrs or so.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
