Trying to figure out medical historyFrom: AMD (andread@bigfoot.com)Tue Feb 9 10:22:49 1999
This isn't exactly a gynecology question, but I am trying to identify any known risks for my baby. This may require reaching into the depths of memory! When my husband was a baby (around 1970),he had to wear a brace that was basically a bar between his shoes. His mother does not remember what the condition was, but she recalls that it was something with his hips -- she vaguely recalls something about a "space" being too big. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Was this a common childhood condition that is now treated in a completely different manner, or was this some sort of birth defect that had to be corrected? Does it sound like something that could be possibly passed on to our children? I've read about congenital hip dislocation, but the current treatment sounds nothing like what my husband had. My husband is adopted and we have no medical history for his side of the family. So I certainly want to make the most of the little information we do have in protecting our children's health. Thanks, Andrea

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
