Re: Chinese IUDFrom: Ingrid Andenas Chamales, MD (chamales@brookings.net)Thu Jul 31 20:31:15 1997
Sorry, I haven't been around in a while. My Chinese patient who wanted the IUD removed... Ultrasound showed intrauterine position, so I did a hysteroscopy, hooked it and pulled it out, no problem. The endometrium was proliferative, no endometritis. I think this was made to be a lifelong IUD, as I believe the Chinese government has a firm 1 child per family policy. Thus, no string for removal. The IUD was LARGE, a 4-prong device, but quite flexible. I have it displayed in my office, along with a dalkon shield I recently removed from the anterior peritoneal bladder reflection while doing a hysterectomy. Regards, Ingrid

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
