obgyn as gatekeeper...From: Geffrey Klein (GK6972@americanmed.com)Thu Jul 31 15:10:31 1997
Great article in this month's Green.. Ref: Scrogss JA, etal "Obstetrician-Gynecologists as Primary Care Physicians: The Perspectives of Health Maintenance Organization Medical Directors and Obstetrician-Gynecologists" Obstet Gynecol 1997;90:291-5 Basically it says that most ob-gyn's don't want to be primary care docs or gatekeepers and that HMO's don't feel that they are trained for that role. The study concludes that ob-gyn's want to assure unlimited access for women to see their ob-gyn. HMO's expect more female reproductive healthcare be provided by gatekeepers.. any thoughts?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
