It's one of those dogmatic things >we were taught that does not seem to be based on scientific evidence >(unless, of course, I just can't find the darn citation)! > >Thanks, > >Ashley My understanding is that it pertained to women who were going to use OCPs. Since there is a higher risk of thombosis for two weeks post-partum, starting the OCPs 2 weeks post-partum did not 'prevent' pregnancy until 6 weeks post partum, with the second pill pack, around the same time the uterus is of normal size, and the lochia has decreased enough that a pap smear would not come back with 'RBCs TMTC, recommended repeat' and one-stop shopping could be attained. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
