Re: "labial trimming"From: dahmd (dahmd@gate.net)Wed Jun 18 22:33:05 1997
I find it fascinating that many of our list members have experience with a few patients each who request "labial trimming" but this subject is, as far as I can tell, rarely mentioned in texts or other literature. The power of our collective experiences is impressive. Of course, it's possible that this is simply one patient who is unhappy with the results and goes from doctor to doctor hoping for a cure! I recently read a book called (I think) "The Truth Machine" where the protagonist develops a national "HMO" that allows for the collection of data for medical studies. The huge numbers of patients creates new paradigms (ouch, haven't used that word since college) in the medical profession and renders many dogmatic ideas and treatments obsolete. It's an interesting concept. I have "trimmed" one such patient who had a rather large left labia minor (the potential jokes are endless) because it hurt when wearing tight jeans and during intercourse. I did an outpatient procedure to make the left labia the same size as the right and she was very happy with the results. I guess that makes my "experience" with this 100% curative (got to take the successes as they come). Ashley D. Ashley Hill, M.D. Orlando, FL dahmd@gate.net

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
