Re: Copper T IUDFrom: Arthur W. Curtis, Jr. (artcurtis@juno.com)Tue Jun 17 02:02:31 1997
> Would the following be fair statements?? 1. Present use of an IUD reduces the rate of EP (7 fold). 2. Of pregnancies occurring with an IUD in place, the RELATIVE risk of EP is increased (presumably the IUD does a better job of preventing implantation that sperm destruction or migration?). 3. With an IUD in place, the ABSOLUTE risk of EP is decreased compared to no contraception (up to 90% according to Ashley's WHO reference). 4. Previous use of an IUD has been cited as the reason for increasing risk of EP, but this has not been supported by several studies. 5. Medically legally, when an EP occurs, the present or past use of an IUD cannot be implicated. Maybe I should have quit with four. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
