Terri: I would recommend the local injection of any anesthetic agent to determine if a local ablation/excision would solve the problem. It also would allow you to delineate the area to be removed as you could progressively enlarge the anesthetized area until all of the sentive area was no longer tender. I would favor excision as she may have an underlying incisional neuroma as the cause of the pain, and superficial epidermectomy with CO2 laser would not treat it. Further , if you ablate too deeply healing will be a potential problem. JGB

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
