Hyperemesis gravidarumFrom: Peter V. Weston, M.D. (weston@ICSI.Net)Wed Sep 25 13:22:58 1996
Welcome one and all! I have just returned from an extended trip and have waded through all my mail. The posts on hyperemesis were, to say the least, distressing. In 1969, Marshall Lindheimer and I had an article in the Green Journal on the subject. I no longer have the reference as all my books and papers are in storage in preparation of my impending move. The gist of the article was that we presented a psychiatric patient with hyperemesis in whom the cause of the intractible vomiting was a mal rotated bowel. We reviewed the hospital records for many years and discovered to our dismay that in the majority of hospital admissions for intractible vomiting the medical records did not include an abdominal examination other than the documentation of uterine size! The presence of bowel sounds was seldom recorded nor was the presence or absence of distension documented. Now y'all know why my former signature had Zachary Cope's famous couplet: More is lost because you do not look, Than from not knowing what is in the book. May I, in my doting age, be allowed one more observation? As I am on several listservers I had over 900 messages to download. Kevin Dalton was not the only one to overload the ether waves with unnecessary electrons. Politics and humor are fine, I indulge in them myself, but it is unnecessary to quote previous documents in their entirety including the former poster's signature. IMHO the only two regular posters who should post more than one page of info are Drs Jones and Bui who are veritable powerhouses of info. Could the rest of us mortals limit our posts to two paragraphs? This list is fun. Regards to all. Peter Cap'n Pete -- Peter V. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
