Postpartal Urinary Retention X's 3From: R. Daniel Braun (rBraun@IUNET.IUPUI.EDU)Tue Sep 24 12:45:27 1996
Since I think I sent this out yesterday and so far have had no replies, I am wondering if it went out. If you have received this before I apologise. Can somebody at least let me know if it got there or if there is no interest at all. Thanks Dan I have a pt. 32Y/O G3 P3 after her first 2 spont. vag. dels had postpartum urinary retention. This consisted of not voiding for 9 hours, then being catheterized with over 1000 ccs in her bladder. Forewarned with this history, when she had not voided by 4 hours postpartal we catheterized her and got 500 ccs. Left the Foley in place. 24 hours later residual urine was 400 ccs. We let her go home with foley in. One week PP, cann not void 4 hours after removal of foley. Foley reinserted and 500 ccs obtained. Same thing 2 weeks PP. Anybody got any good ideas re: 1. etiology and/or 2. management.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
