It is not being denied in either Florida or Indiana, so far. This is an easy one mathematically, though. Perhaps, one of the states denying the charges has done the calculation, it would be interesting to know and if anyone can get that calculation, I would like to have it please. The calculation for cost effectiveness is the cost of doing the test universally, versus the incidence of finding neural tube or genetic defects via the triple test. The cost of caring for those infants is in the demographic data. Then they can calculate the cost of preventing each case versus the cost of the case. (......and you wondered why they made us take math and statistics in school!!) If it was a mindless decision that is politics and money.. If it was a true cost/benefit calculation, then I am impressed.....most states are not so sophisticated. Linda Morrison-Boczar, M.D. Asst. Prof. IU

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
