Squamous cell ca in an ovarian dermoid with metsFrom: A Ilancheran (s2800002@singnet.com.sg)Fri Sep 13 10:20:55 1996
I was recently asked about a case of a young female who was found to have a large dermoid cyst in her 24th week of pregnancy. At laparotomy, a well defined dermoid was found together with what appeared to be large (6 cm) metastatic nodules in the omentum. No other evidence of disease. A salpingoophorectomy and an infracolic omentectomy was performed. The histology showed a mature cystic teratoma of the ovary with a small focus of invasive squamous cell carcinoma. The omental nodules turned out to be metastatic squamous cell carcinoma! Any suggestions as to the next step in the management? (especially with reference to continuation of pregnancy, type of chemotherapy and whether the chemotherapy can be given with the fetus in situ) A. Ilancheran gynassoc@singnet.com.sg
