I think the professional attitude that says we must place the patient's interests ahead of our own, merely announces to the world that our ethics and morals are better than anyone elses. We assume a god-like aura of altruism and ultimate self-sacrifice. This is the problem with doctors today. Actually we are no better than state sponsored venders of pills/ potions/ and poisons. We contract with patients to cut out the disease when we please. However we are under no obligation to do so. It's a better contract if patients know that we too are human, we have limitations, we have guidelines, some things we are not willing to do. If the message we wish to "sell" is wellnes and prevention then so be it. If you wish to sell pills and poisons then that is your business. But let the patient make the decision which advice to buy.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
