Amenorrhea

Dear Fellow Listers:

I have a patient referred to me for amenorrhea. She's in her early 30s, is on risperdal, an anti-psychotic, and smokes 2 packs of cigarettes daily. Her serum prolactin is 111, probably secondary to the risperdal(I called one of the local medical endocrinologists who assured me that this was probably the case. He said that he would not further evaluate her hyperprolactinemia unless is went above 130.). Would any of you further evaluate the prolactin at this time? I don't feel that I can treat her with OCPs due to her smoking. Would any of you place her on ERT to protect against bone loss?

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
