Hysteroscopy ?From: Mark Perloe (mperloe@ivf.com)Sat Aug 31 14:49:13 1996
While we are all aware of the importance of monitoring I&O during operative hysteroscopy with a liquid medium, I would like the groups opinon on whether that I & O should include IV fluid and urine output? We have been recording the total I&O, as our greatest concern was fluid overload. However, our urologists, feel that hyponatremia is a far more common problem, and they monitor only fluid going in and coming out of the resectoscope. As only the distention media is electrolyte free, it makes sense that I&O comparison would most accurately predict hyponatremia, while a total I&O would be neceesary to avoid fluid overload in the elderly patient. Any comments? The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education.
