Rare indeed. The problem with many of our "great society" liberal programs is that despite the best intentions they CREATE more social disturbances than they solve. I sincerely believe that the epidemic of single-parent homes and teenage pregnancy is almost ENTIRELY due to the handouts our government has been giving for decades. I take care of these people daily and I see first hand what their expectations are. Many truly believe that they have a "right" to have their daily needs provided for them and expect the government to do so.

To be quite frank, I don't believe there are many poor people today. A substantial proportion of those on welfare that I take care of have cable TV, wear Nike tennis shoes, have nice jewelry, wear name brand clothes, can afford to smoke, and buy nice cuts of meat and name-brand grocery items at the store. I grew up in a working family with hand-me-down tennis shoes, never had cable TV until college, and still buy clothes at outlets to save my money - these "poor" people can afford nicer "stuff" than I can.

My grandfather's generation grew up when many people had to worry about ANY food on the table, and wore clothes until they were patched over and over again - it would do our society good for these situations to be real again - strong motivators to get a job, however "menial" it might be.

The contract will, IMNSHO, put more women on the tract to being the kind of mothers you admire, instead of waiting at the mailbox for this month's check. Tough love, is what it is - and tough love is what this country needs.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
