Re: Politics and Medicine

At the risk of starting a flame war I, nevertheless, am adding my $.02 worth.

First let me state at the outset that I am a card carrying ACLU member and perhaps in a more benevolent moment, Philip would call me a pinko, commie liberal.

Folks, take off the blinders. Big business is not our friend. The insurance industry is not our friend. The Republicans are not our friends.

Only after we let our patients know that we care about their well being we can enlist their aid in fighting those forces attempting to emasculate us. Above all we MUSTN'T give the impression that all we care about is our income. We must stop giving the impression that we are self serving in our political endeavors.

Managed care is probably going to be around for a long time and on this issue both parties have similar views.

Who cares about length of stays after delivery? Not the Republicans.

Who cares about the well being of women? Not the Republicans.

Who cares about women's reproductive rights? Not the Republicans.

Who wants to reduce the benefits to Medicare patients? Yes, the Republicans.

Who wants to reduce the benefits to Medicaid patients? Yes, the Republicans.

Think about other issues that affect our patients and ask who gives a damn.

Feel free to throw your arrows at me. I'll be out of touch for a few weeks!

Regards to all,

Peter

For the truth is that I already know as much about my fate as I need to know. The day will come when I will die. So the only matter of consequence before me is what I will do with my allotted time. I can remain on shore, paralyzed with fear, or I can raise my sails and dip and soar in the breeze.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
