Re: On becoming an OB/GYNFrom: Douglas Krell (sfth@roadrunner.com)Wed Aug 28 23:12:52 1996
An OB/GYN's an awful job...I like it. A delivery can be done by ANY slob...I like it. It makes you thin, It makes you mean You lose the hair right off your bean It's the worst damn job I've EVER seen...I like it. Adapted from the poem "Tobacco" by godknowswho. The point is that there are good and bad things about the profession. The conclusion I've come to is that it's an enormous ego builder, if you've got to feed that kind of beast. But be careful because it will literally eat up the rest of your life, ruin your health, and deprive you of your family if your're lucky enough to find and keep one. Ultimately under managed care, our jobs will be highly technical with patients only being referred for special indications. We'll be more like general surgeons in that regard. It's getting harder and harder to see the same patient year after year, build a relationship, and take care of her needs over time. A balanced life is critical.... I say. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
