Re: Congenital cystic adenoma

I recently had a 27 year old RN who came to me for routine prenatal care at 12 weeks' gestation. The uterus seemed to be a 15 week size, with definitive menstrual dating. Ultrasound showed a cystic hygroma and a cystic adenoid malformation of the thorax. Genetic amnio was done and was normal. The patient elected to terminate her pregnancy. I would speculate that the fetus had a congenital lymphedema, given the normal amnio. The other possibility is Noonan's Syndrome, although that would not account for the CAM of the thorax. Likelihood of recurrence is minimal. D. McCoubrey MDCM FRCSC FACOG Cornwall Ontario Canada

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
