Re: "Natural" estrogens/progestinsFrom: DoctorJoe@aol.comMon Aug 26 09:21:55 1996
<<whats the issue with Premarin? No animals are harmed in its collection - just pregnant mare urine if I recall>> The ruckus is that the mares are impregnanted, kept penned up (inhumanely in restricted areas) so that their hormone-rich urine can be collected. Then, when the foals come, they are just killed or something, so the mare can become pregnant again quickly to produce more (money-making) urine. So the animal rights people are upset about the inhumane quarters, the killing of the babies, and making money off of poor miserable horses. I hope I got the facts correct. I've only heard this a couple of times. Joe P.

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
