sharing the pain of birthFrom: David Zimmerman (fastedy@aloha.net)Mon Aug 26 05:45:36 1996
A patient/friend shared the following with me. SHARING THE PAIN OF BIRTH A man took his pregnant wife to the hospital to give birth. The doctor delivering the child explained to the couple that he'd developed a new machine and asked if they'd like to try it out. The machine could take some of the pain of childbirth from the mother and give it to the father to ease the mother's burden. They thought that was a great idea and decided to give it a try. The doctor set the machine on 10% to begin with, telling the man that even 10% was probably more pain than he'd ever experienced. The man was surprised at how little pain he was feeling and asked the doctor to raise it. So, the doctor raised it up to 20% and when the man still felt fine, he raised it to 50% and finally 100%. After the delivery, the man stood up and stretched a little. Both he and his wife felt fine. Later, when they took the baby home, they found the mailman dead on their doorstep. The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
