"Natural" estrogens/progestins

To the list:

I have recently had a number of patients ask about natural hormones. It seems they are reluctant to take premarin due to animal rights issues, and do not want synthetic estrogens. Some mention wild yam cream, sublingual yam drops (!), micronized progesterone, estrogen pellets, etc.

I admit to being pretty clueless on this subject. I'm starting a lit search, but in the meantime, anybody use this stuff? Thanks in advance,

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
