This certainty makes sense to me too. It would save a one hour glucola for anyone with risk factors, and in the first and second trimesters the damage has been done, so to speak. It could be drawn with the initial PN labs. If elevated, then further testing. If normal, then wait until 26-28 weeks and do a one hour glucola. I guess what we need is some sort of reliable research or recommendation from somewhere. (;-)).

<<The one place that I think Hgb A-1-c helps in pregnancy is at about 12 weeks. This gives an idea of what control has been like in the first trimester when the fetus was developing. It has been shown to be well correlated with fetal anomalies. The higher the Hgb A-1-c at 12 weeks, the higher the incidence of fetal anomalies. >> Pat Sonnenstuhl, CNM,ARNP,RH South Sound Women's Center: 2 CNMs and 3 OB/GYNs Olympia, WA cnmpat@aol.com HTTP://home.aol.com/CNMPAT August 25, 1996 9:30 am

The American Medical Association is no longer designating CME hours for AMA Category II CME credit. However, physicians themselves may self designate learning activities as Category II CME credit hours if they feel it is of sufficient educational merit and meets the formal definitions of continuing medical education. OBGYN.net believes these interaction in this forum meets these criteria. For further information see the AMA web site.
